Our Grantmaking Philosophy & Approach

The Greater Grand Island Community Foundation’s grantmaking is rooted in community voices and experience. We support both time-tested efforts and bold new approaches that are responsive to today and shaping Hall County’s future. Beyond funding, we listen and learn with applicants through feedback, site visits, and collaboration to strengthen ideas. Every grant is an opportunity to foster partnerships and cultivate the conditions where community-driven solutions thrive.

Our grantmaking is more than a transaction; it’s a partnership rooted in trust, collaboration, and a shared vision for a thriving Hall County. Our grant programs are shaped by community feedback, informed by lived experience, and driven by a deep belief in local leadership. Through intentional listening, flexible support, and a commitment to transparency, we strive to:

Fiscally Sponsored Organization Application Policy

Organizations, projects, and programs fiscally sponsored by the Greater Grand Island Community Foundation (GGICF) or by another 501(c)(3) public charity are eligible to apply for GGICF grant programs, provided they abide by the following. Programs fiscally sponsored by 501(c)(3) private foundations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

• meet all program guidelines and deadlines
• disclose their fiscal agent’s information when requested; and
• for programs fiscally sponsored by GGICF, are the applicant of record (meaning the Sponsored Organization—not GGICF—is listed as the applying entity and is responsible for the grant’s content, submission, and reporting).

Additional Considerations

• For fiscally sponsored organizations outside of GGICF, the organization that holds the EIN is ultimately responsible for all financial and reporting obligations.
• Sponsored Organizations fiscally sponsored by GGICF are responsible for submitting their own reports and ensuring they are completed accurately and on time. Fiscal reporting support provided by GGICF as the fiscal sponsor does not replace this responsibility.
• Applications are evaluated through the standard process and rubric. All conflicts beyond standard board or staff involvement are disclosed and recorded in the minutes, and any reviewer with an additional conflict will recuse from discussion and voting.
• The Foundation reserves the right to require interim reports, request fiscal sponsor agreements, or request additional information if deemed necessary.
• The Foundation reserves the right to deny applications from any organization at any time for any reason.

GGICF will not serve as the applicant of record and will not draft, author, submit, or sign applications on behalf of a Sponsored Organization. Any assistance provided will be neutral and process-only (e.g., portal navigation, deadline reminders) and no different from assistance available to any other applicant.

Sponsored Organizations that receive funding are subject to the same reporting requirements, timelines, and formats as other grantees under the relevant program guidelines.

GGICF Strives to Create Lasting Change by Supporting Those Leading the Way

The Greater Grand Island Community Foundation will not knowingly support organizations whose programs or services are not open to all without discrimination on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender expression, age, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, pregnancy, veteran status, military obligation, marital status, or any other personal characteristic protected by law. We recognize that organizations may identify special needs in the community and target programs or services to a specific population based on those needs; however, the programs must be open to all people in those targeted populations to be eligible for grant consideration.
